WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

While Pools may seem like just another insurance company, there are very important differences. For instance:

  • Pools are owned, operated and controlled by its Members. Funds contributed to the Pools are owned by the Pools; and, each entity that joins the Pool indirectly owns the Pools assets. The Member-elected board determines the use of those funds.
  • Because the Members of a Pool have the similar goals and objectives and operate in the same environment, they share the same concerns. Accordingly, unique coverages, claims management and loss control programs are designed to best fit their unique needs.
  • Those Members who are truly interested in solving their problems have an opportunity to work closely with SWRS' staff and legal counsel. Unlike an insurance company, the Pools exist to serve their Members.
  • It is the ultimate lowest cost yet professional program. There are no insurance company stockholders or board of directors requiring a profit. Member charges are needed only to cover the cost of administration and claims.
  • A variety of publications and resources are available to Members as a continuing service, free of charge.ent bulletins are published containing a variety of pertinent and timely articles.
